![]() | Bell Citi Bike Helmet Buy new: $34.87 - $53.86 I found a way cheaper version of this at big box. Didn't want the bike geek pointy thing. I think really expensive helmets are more of a fashion statement. A helmet will help prevent lacerations and abrasions about your head and face. Outweighs the cons, definitely. I haven't seen a whole lot of difference in safety btw. helmets. Comfort may be an issue. |
![]() | Topeak Explorer Bike Rack Buy new: $27.95 I got the one for disc brakes. It is really solid, doesn't rattle. It is fairly easy to attach and is awesome with compatible bag. Glad I spent the money. |
![]() | Topeak MTX Trunk Bag EXP with Side Panniers Buy new: $56.52 Probably more bag than I need. I am pretty cheap but glad I splurged. Absolutely fulfills needs for my commuting. |
![]() | Planet Bike Hardcore Hybrid Front and Rear Bicycle Fender Set with Stainless Steel Hardware & Mud Flaps (45mm Wide) Buy new: $36.55 All fenders are overpriced. I liked the yellow. If you have racks and disc brakes you may want to look at the EZ fender variety or attachment may require some creativity. |
![]() | Bell PRO-GEL Cycling Gloves Buy new: $19.99 These gloves work pretty well, and I found them to be comparable to gloves that are 10-12$ more. Get padded gloves... go ahead and geek out. They are functional and important. Avoid numbness and road rash. |
![]() | 1X40IN REFLECTIVE TAPE Buy new: $4.96 Get a roll of this and stick it on everything. Get it 1 inch thick. You can always slice it to make thinner strips. Very useful! Increase visibility! Especially in non-biking towns. |
![]() | Mirrycle Incredibell Original Bicycle Bell Buy new: $4.65 - $14.99 Get some type of noise maker especially if riding on paths. This is important! Let people know where you are. Behind you on left ring ring! |
![]() | Topeak Modula Cage Waterbottle Cage Buy new: $10.69 / Used from: $8.00 Actually, I don't even know the brand of the cage I bought. Just get one with a bottle. All look the same to me. It is nice to have water available. I like mine mounted on the handlebars. |
![]() | Bell Night Trail Bicycle Light Set Buy new: $13.89 You can find these really cheap, and they work fine. I try not to ride around at night, but one job is early in the morn (6am). My philosophy is visibility is more important than vision. Most streets are pretty well lit. If you are doing some serious overnight rally somewhere, this might not be good enough. Otherwise, all of the cheap lights seem comparable. |
![]() | TOOL ALLEN FOLDING TOPEAK X ALLEN KEY+SCREWDRIVERS 9 FUNCTION BLACK Buy new: $13.99 I have one of these (or similar) from a long time ago. It is handy. A few allen wrenches are must have! |
![]() | Leatherman 830039 New Wave Multitool with Leather/Nylon Combination Sheath Buy new: $59.23 I actually got the Kick. If you are going to get one, I recommend spending the dough on one of the better models with blades on the inside of the handles and locking blades. Or, get a little Swiss Army knife for about ten bucks. Throw it, a pair of needle nose, a small phillips, a 5mm allen, and a patch kit. Much lighter, cheaper, and doesn't really take up much more room. |
